I thought I understood healing—until this changed everything.
Years ago, when my former wife Sarah and I were still dating, she experienced a tragic loss. Her little sister Becky—her best friend—passed away unexpectedly during childbirth.
Sarah was devastated.
The world she knew completely changed in an instant. For the following months, she couldn’t get out of bed. She couldn’t leave the apartment. It was like the light had gone out. Sarah tried professional grief counseling and EMDR, but nothing was helping her overcome the mental and physical symptoms she was experiencing. Nothing, we tried re-ignited the light that was inside her.  At the time, I was already practicing nutrition and bodywork—even those tools wouldn’t resolve what she was really going through.
Eventually, I gently encouraged her to try a new mind-body therapy a colleague was offering.
After just one session, she couldn't even make herself cry. The physical symptoms she was experiencing completely resolved themselves. It was like a roadside accident was cleared and the cars on the freeway began to move again.  What barriers were blocking her from healing were removed.
That session didn’t erase her grief, but it gave her the ability to move forward. To function again. To reconnect with herself. And over time, she truly began to feel joy and her light started to shine again.
Now, years later, we co-parent our two amazing kids—and she lives a full, meaningful life.
That moment changed the way I practice forever.
It showed me that healing isn’t just about the physical—it’s about the brain, the emotions, and the nervous system too.
